Go Construct – Engage also aims is to increase knowledge of the industry amongst parents, teachers and careers advisors to ensure that there is a better understanding of the opportunities available for the future workforce.
The project is being delivered pan-Wales for pupils from primary and secondary schools who are invited to participate in a 6-8 week construction process from start to finish during after-school clubs. This process has five stages which contribute to the ‘final product’. Following a briefing, pupils are split into 5 groups who discuss different topics. These include product design, use of materials, cost issues, production and evaluation. Parents are invited to attend the first and final week of the project to understand the aim of the project and to see the final products the students have created.
Since it was set up the project has created a range of benefits including after-school/INSET training for teachers and parents, free teaching resources, mentoring, webinars, careers days, mock interviews, site visits and work experience.
Go Construct – Engage works collaboratively with partners CITB, CIOB, University of Wales Trinity St David, CWIC, and Careers Wales.
