Gareth Wyn Evans is the Centre Manager for the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s Construction Wales Innovation Centre.
Before starting an academic career in various FE and HE institutions, Gareth spent 10 years in industry working for various regional and U.K based companies. Gareth is a keen advocate of skills development; particularly through apprenticeship route, having started his career as a Carpentry apprentice himself at Coleg Sir Gâr.
For 10 years, Gareth supported the delivery of WorldSkills International skills competitions and has represented the interests of the UK as a trade expert in these events since 2015. He is particularly proud of his humble beginnings in the industry and how this valuable grounding has led him to represent Wales in countries and cities around the world.
Gareth has a strong knowledge of construction digital technologies, practices, and equipment across the sector and regularly advises companies and strategy groups on the implementation of technology within the industry. Gareth represents the interests of the Construction Wales Innovation Centre on several strategy and focus groups. These include CITB’s Future & Digital Skills Strategy Group, City and Guilds’ Digital and Emerging Technologies Curriculum Development Group, as well as with the South East and Mid & West Wales Construction Cluster Advisory Groups. Gareth is also a member of the British Association of Construction Heads Network.
At CWIC he focuses on leading operations and future skills delivery and development. He currently oversees a number of flagship initiatives, many of these focusing on knowledge and skill development using the latest construction technology. These initiatives reach across Great Britain and strive to champion future and higher-level skills within the construction industry and its related education systems.
