Arrival of new building performance test pods enhances practical learning
The time has finally come, and we are thrilled to announce the arrival of our new building performance test pods!
These state-of-the-art learning tools have been carefully designed and constructed to enhance practical learning for our students. With these test pods, we can provide a hands-on experience for our students to better understand what constitutes good fabric performance and what might compromise this performance. We cannot wait to see the positive impact these test pods will have on our students’ learning journey.
These pods represent a perfect blend of teaching, research, and innovation. Being built to reflect Passivhaus principles and the Welsh Building Regulations, both pods will offer an unparalleled opportunity for students to learn about Building Performance Evaluation (BPE) techniques such as air tightness, U-Value measurement, thermal performance and heat loss.
By utilising a closed panel timber frame construction, these pods will also educate a wide range of audiences in terms of low-carbon, high performance construction using timber as a sustainable building material.
Designed and constructed in collaboration with Woodknowledge Wales, Rob Thomas, Hiraeth Architecture and Kenton Jones (Designers and Makers), the pods both celebrate and acknowledge our relationships with industry and stakeholders.
These test pods mark a significant milestone in our commitment to providing students with hands-on learning experiences that will shape their careers in the construction industry.
