Reshaping Construction Education
To meet the changing needs of the industry new qualifications have been developed by City and Guilds to offer learners more flexible and comprehensive progression routes into employment. The Foundation Qualification for Construction and The Built Environment Sector will be introduced from September 2021 to post 16 learners.
CWIC is pleased to have been involved in this new and exciting development through the creation of learning resources for the Introduction to Emerging Technologies unit. The syllabus has been written by Sheila Holmes who joined CWIC in February and who has a background in construction management.
The unit introduces learners to a wide range of topics. These include Building Information Modelling (BIM), the use of Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality technologies and Digital Twins to support the development of future projects with few risks. The syllabus will feature case studies and videos to help learners to understand the new materials and methods such as offsite construction that are reshaping the way we construct our world.
Sheila said, ” This will be an exciting module for pupils. It will open their eyes to the innovation and change that is taking place in our industry. It will also show learners that we can offer them an exciting range of professions and hopefully bust some of the commons myths about the construction industry”
